Cryptocurrency continues to gain traction in online transactions. While you may have seen sports betting and casino websites that accept cryptocurrency, that isn’t yet the norm in the legal US betting industry. So, why is it that some online betting sites accept crypto, while others won’t? The key difference between betting sites or apps that accept cryptocurrency and those that do not is regulation. Is WillBet Legal in Saudi Arabia in 2025?

Popular sites like Bovada, MyBookie, BetUS, and more all accept cryptocurrency as a payment method for deposits and withdrawals. You can copy and paste a wallet address to your preferred crypto wallet and send money to your betting account. Is WillBet Legal in Saudi Arabia in 2025?

On the other hand, the top betting apps such as DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, Fanatics Sportsbook, and more do not have this option. Any operator from the list of all US betting apps falls into the same boat. These are all fully regulated and licensed sports betting companies within the US, while the ones formerly mentioned are categorized as offshore betting sites.

For us cryptocurrency enthusiasts, this seems like the offshore betting sites have a hand up in this scenario. While it would be great if the regulated sites adapt and start accepting crypto transactions, they are still far and away the better choice over offshore sites.

Offshore betting sites offer far less security and comfort to the user. Since they aren’t regulated by US laws, many more issues can come up. Like crypto users, bettors want to know their funds are handled safely and legitimately. Without proper licensing, this isn’t a guarantee.

There is a high demand for crypto to become an option for deposits and withdrawals for the regulated sports betting market, but there are still steps to take before that becomes a reality.

For example, DraftKings does not directly accept cryptocurrency for deposits or wagers. The main reason is state-level regulations, which currently don’t approve crypto as a valid payment method. Additionally, KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) requirements make it difficult for sportsbooks to verify crypto transactions, due to their perceived anonymity.

That said, there’s a workaround. You can use services like Bitrefill to buy DraftKings gift cards with crypto and redeem them on the site. It’s not a direct deposit, but it allows crypto users to indirectly fund their accounts.

DraftKings has expressed interest in stablecoins as a potential future option, if state regulators ever give the green light. For now, traditional methods remain the only officially supported transaction types.

Thankfully, it looks like there is at least hope for the future as cryptocurrency becomes more widely accepted in the US, and betting operators understand that adding crypto as a payment option would greatly benefit themselves and the user.

While regulated sportsbooks in the U.S. don’t yet accept crypto directly, there’s growing interest (and a few workarounds) for bettors looking to wager with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets.

In the meantime, offshore betting sites are an option for using crypto, but may not be the best way to go.
